Goal: Teaching the child to follow simple instructions without visual clues.
Instruction:
Place 3 distinct objects in front of the child (e.g., a spoon, a ball, a shoe).
Put your hand out and say, "Give me spoon."
If they don't do it, guide their hand to the spoon and help them give it to you.
Cheer loudly: "Yay! You gave me the spoon!"
Goal: Bombarding the child with language without forcing them to speak.
Instruction:
Stop asking questions like "What is this?" or "Say apple." Instead, narrate what the child is doing like a sports commentator.
If child is playing with a car: You say, "Oh, pushing the car. Fast car! Vroom vroom. The car stopped."
If child is eating: You say, "Eating dal. Yummy dal. Hot dal."
