Goal: To teach the child that the end of the word is like an animal's tail—you can't cut it off!
Instruction:
The Visual: Draw a picture of a Cat with a long tail, a Dog with a fluffy tail, and a Mouse with a curly tail.
The Concept: Point to the head and say "Ca-". Point to the tail and say "t-t-t".
The Practice: Ask the child: "Where is the tail? Don't forget the tail!"
Visual Cue: When they say a word, touch your own "tail bone" or wiggle your finger behind you to remind them to put the tail on the word.
Goal: To physically mark the end of the word.
Instruction:
Draw a slide or use a toy car ramp.
Place a block or a toy at the very bottom.
Run a car down the ramp saying the word: "Caaaaaaa..."
Crash into the block at the bottom: "...T!" (Make a hard contact).
The crash forces the mouth to close/make the final sound.
