Goal: To teach the child to hold the final position without letting go of the extra breath.
Instruction:
The Concept: Some sounds need to be "frozen" at the end.
The Action:
Say "Dog".
As soon as the 'G' sound is made, put your hand up in a Stop signal and freeze your mouth.
Don't let your mouth open again to release the "uh".
The Mirror: Watch the mouth. For "Dog", the back of the tongue goes up. Keep it up! If it drops, the "uh" comes out.
Goal: To link words together so there is no room for the extra sound.
Instruction:
The Trick: It is harder to add "uh" if another word is coming straight away.
The Phrase: Instead of saying "Big", say "Big-apple".
The Connection: The 'G' of Big flows into the 'A' of Apple, stopping the "Big-uh" error.
Once they can do the phrase, remove the second word.
