Goal: To teach the child that the two sounds must stick together.
Instruction:
The Visual: Draw two letters (e.g., B and L) with a picture of a Glue Stick between them.
The Rule: "B and L are stuck together with super glue! You can't put anything in between them."
The Practice:
Wrong: "Buh... (gap) ... Lack".
Right: "Black" (Clasp your hands together tight when you say the blend to show they are one unit).
Goal: To smooth out the transition so there is no room for the "uh".
Instruction:
The Visual: Use the slide analogy again.
The Action: Put your finger at the top.
The Sound: Start the first sound "Ssssss" and slide immediately into "Poon".
The Error: If they say "Suh-poon", tell them: "Oh no! You hopped! We need to slide."
